Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, made the call at a virtual event, attended by a number of distinguished personalities, including diplomats like the American Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, to mark the World Albinism Day themed, “Strength Beyond All Odds.”
He further expressed the need for the citizenry to prioritise talks around the safety and enablement of citizens who live with albinism.
Urging premium for this special category of persons, the Vice President submitted: “There is need to see it for what it is – a genetic difference, not a contagious disease or a public health problem.”
In dealing with the various challenges faced by the albinism community, he urged platform to “have frank and robust conversations around the protection and empowerment of our compatriots that live with albinism.”
