CHIEF host of the just concluded Dipeolu Schools fourth Inter-House Sports meet, Dare Oseni, has appealed to government at all levels to create an avenue where students could showcase their sports talents for the good of the nation.
Speaking to The Guardian during the competition, Oseni argued that if events like inter house sports were organized at the local, state and federal levels, it would help the governments to scout for talents, which could be developed to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games and other international competitions.
Contributing to the discourse, proprietress of the school, Oseni Modupeolu, urged government to support public and private schools to organise inter house sports competitions, saying it is capital intensive and also a way of developing young talents and promoting sports in the country.
At the event, Dumebi Tamazi, Seyi Shosanya, Toyosi Sosanya came tops in the 100 and 200 metres events in both the junior and senior categories. Yellow House came tops, with Red in second position, while Blue House ended in the third position.
Speaking at the end of the competition, Seyi Shosanya, who won the 100 and 200 metres race, senior category, urged the government to help improve sports in the country by providing well-equipped training centers across the country.
Seyi, winner of gold medals in 100, 200, 800 metres and the relays at his former school, Blacky Blue Coat Church of England School, London, said he was ready to go into full time sport.
“I know this is my talent and I do it well. I get my inspiration from Usain Bolt and I want to take sports to the highest height; that is why I am working towards it because it is what I enjoy doing,” Seyi stressed.
