Igbinedion varsity inducts 101 Pharmacy graduates

A total of 101 pharmacy graduates of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) on Wednesday have been charged to uphold ethical standards in the medical profession and not just dispensers of medicine but advocate for premium health and well-being.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, gave the charge while addressing the graduands during the 13th Oath-taking/Induction ceremony of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Edo State.

Ezemonye said pharmacy is a noble profession that guarantees new graduates the opportunities to practice in different fields such as academia, hospital, industries, administration, research, and other human endeavours.

According to him, over the years, Igbinedion University has carved a niche for itself and demonstrated an enviable reputation for its contributions to meeting the manpower needs of the nation’s diverse sectors.


He said the institution has recently set up a tablet manufacturing factory domiciled in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology in the College of Pharmacy to meet the local needs of the Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH) as well as the University’s host communities.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the facility is designed for both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, extemporaneous compounding and production of tablets (OTC) to meet the local needs of the University’s host communities and Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH).

“The University has also built an automated line for the production of antiseptics, disinfectants and reagents. This will further strengthen our teaching and research and to meet the immediate aseptic needs of the University,” Ezemonye said.


Ezemonye commended the inductees on the milestone and called on them to cultivate a sense of purpose in the discharge of the duties as professionals saying, ” Be not just dispensers of medicine but advocate for premium health and well-being.”

In his remark, Dean of Pharmacy, Prof. Ighodaro Igbe tasked the inductees on professionalism, adding that the institution’s College of pharmacy has enjoyed an uninterrupted academic calendar since inception.
