Insecurity: Vigilante group to hold training for unarmed combatants in Calabar

The national headquarters of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) will on July 11, 2024, begin its first National Unarmed Combat Training (NUCT) 2023/2024 in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The event, with the theme “Human Kinetics and Sports: The Nexus for Securing Nigeria,” is scheduled to be held from July 11-14, 2024, at the Sports Auditorium of the University of Calabar in Cross River State.

A press release by the Cross River State Commandant of VGN, Dr. Moses Ogar Bassey, made available to newsmen in Calabar, indicated that the training, which is in collaboration with the Fixed Martial Art and Superior Taekwondo Association, is expected to have all state commands of the VGN in attendance.

He said the training exercise is aimed at equipping security personnel with modern non-kinetic combating techniques as well as defensive and offensive techniques to demobilise insecurity and allow for a peaceful environment for growth and development to thrive.

The State Commandant noted that the state must be safe for schools, farming, and business, adding that after the training, all men of the VGN would be more grounded in skills to perform their tasks in collaboration with other security agencies in the state.

He lauded the national leaders of VGN, especially the Commandant General, Navy Capt. Abubakar Umar Bakori (Retd), and the National Director of Sports and Training, Grandmaster Ebose Michael, and enjoined all Vigilante officers in the state to present themselves for the safety exercise and to host the Commandant General and his team.

The State Commandant advised the officers to abide by the rules and regulations of the VGN and obey the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as they discharge their duties.

He enjoined the officers to present themselves alongside their appointment letters, educational credentials, and VGN certificates at the ongoing verification exercise of essential documents which commenced on June 24, 2024, at the VGN state headquarters behind Transcorp Hotel, Calabar.
