Kendrick Lamar has pushed his beef with Drake further with the release of the music video for his diss track, ‘Not Like Us’ just days after performing the diss track five times in a row at his Juneteenth concert.

Lamar has dropped the official music video, racking up over 12 million views (and counting) at the time of writing.

Symbolism in the music video

The video is full of symbolism targeting Drake.

One notable scene features Lamar destroying a piñata shaped like an owl. This is a clear reference to Drake’s OVO record label, which uses an owl as its logo.

There is a disclaimer during the video that reads, “No OVHoes were harmed during the making of this video.”

In the diss track, Lamar accuses him of being a snitch and a culture vulture.

According to Genius, “On the track, Kendrick avenges the West Coast for Drake’s controversial use of 2Pac and Snoop Dogg A.I. vocals on his song Taylor Made Freestyle. Drake’s second diss was removed shortly after because of a cease-and-desist from the estate of the late Tupac Shakur.”

Some people featured in the music video

Directed by Lamar himself alongside Dave Free, the video has cameos from West Coast icons.

Some of them that were present in the video are record producer Mustard, DJ Tommy the Clown, NBA star DeMar DeRozan, and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, co-founder of Lamar’s label TDE.

Adding a personal touch, the video also features a scene with Lamar’s fianceé Whitney Alford and their two children dancing to the music together.

Finally, the video was shot in Compton, California, Kendrick Lamar’s hometown. The ‘Not Like Us’ music video concludes with Kendrick Lamar putting an owl inside a cage and walk off. This, some say, symbolises Kendrick’s dominance over Drake in their feud.
