Mourns Wigwe

Ahead of his second term inauguration on Wednesday, February 14, the Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has disclosed that some people are making efforts to stop his second term in office at the Bayelsa Election Petitions Tribunal, saying that nobody will stop him from doing a second term.

The governor said that he is following the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) and its candidate ‘bumper to bumper,’ assuring supporters that those who see Bayelsa as their personal property will fail again.

Diri spoke, yesterday, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Council, during a memorial service for his late father, Michael Diri, who passed on last year.

The governor would be sworn in for a second tenure on Wednesday after he defeated Timipre Sylva of the APC,who came second in the November 11, 2023 governorship election.

He said: “Those who thought that this state is their property, and that they can sell it have failed. They will be alive to see us being sworn-in as governor and deputy governor. The Lord said that I will set a table before you in the presence of your enemies. Wherever they are, they will be watching us live on February 14.

“An election that you wanted to rig, and you were stopped, while we even accepted some of your fake results from Nembe-Bassambiri, and you are the one going to tribunal.

“You know what he is doing now? You know when people are fake, they do fake things. They want to go and bring police results as it happened sometime somewhere. They are bringing a police report. They are subpoenaing the police commissioner to come and testify at the tribunal.

“Is it the police that give the result or INEC? Fake people. We crossed that bridge a long time ago, and we know everything they are doing, and we keep quiet. All we have done is to stop them and we will stop them again.

The governor also spoke on the death of Herbert Wigwe, the late Access Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO), saying he is grappling with the reality of his sudden death, describing him as a dear friend and brother, who understood what friendship and brotherhood meant.
