Police suspend two officers for $3,000 extortion


The Rivers State Police Command has announced the suspension of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) over their alleged involvement in an extortion case.


The officers, Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo, were placed on suspension on February 29, 2024, following an investigation into their alleged involvement in a $3,000 extortion scheme.

This development comes after the dismissal of Inspector Michael Odey on February 7, 2024, for his role in the incident.

The three officers were accused of kidnapping and extorting money from two individuals.


Police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the suspension of ASP Edonyabo and ASP Mungo was authorised by the Police Service Commission.

“Additionally, the salaries of the implicated officers have been stopped,” Iringe-Koko said

“The two officers will face the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), which is responsible for addressing disciplinary issues involving senior officers.Update would soon be given on other cases involving these officers.”


Iringe-Koko urged residents to report any instances of unprofessional behavior or misconduct displayed by police officers.
