Security operatives kill two suspected armed robbers, arrest four in Anambra

Anambra State Police Command said joint security operatives have killed two suspected armed robbers terrorising Nkpor Community in Idemili North Local Council of Anambra State, while several others escaped with bullet wounds.
   
Spokesperson for the Command, Ikenga Tochukwu, said security operatives on routine patrol intercepted a gang of four operating with an unregistered black Lexus SUV, and engaged them in a gun battle, during which two of the criminals were demobilised.
  
Tochukwu, in a statement, yesterday, said arms, ammunition, charms and other incriminating items were recovered from the criminals.
  
He said:  “Following so much credible information to the Police Command from the residents of Anambra, there are so many joint operations ongoing with the security forces, especially the vigilantes aimed at sustaining and enhancing safety in the State.
  

“These joint operations yielded a major positive development on May 7, 2023, at about 8:45p.m., the operatives while on routine patrol along Nkpor, Idemili North Council, intercepted a gang of four operating in an unregistered black Lexus SUV.
  
“Security operatives recovered two locally made explosives, one AK-47 rifle, nine live 7.62 ammunition, four AK-47 magazines, charms and other incriminating items.
  
“The operatives during the gun duel with the criminals demobilised two of the gang members, while two others escaped. Efforts are already emplaced to arrest other fleeing gang members.
   
“Also, earlier on the same date by 4:00p.m., operatives at Azu Ogbunike in Oyi Local Council arrested another gang of armed robbers and vandals in the act, vandalising a truck suspected to have been stolen.
  
“The suspects are one Nwusulor Fidelis ‘m’, 51, Iloegunam Amobi, ‘m’, 44, Solomon Akpagu ‘m’, 51, and Chidiebere Innocent ‘m’, 28.
   
“They all confessed to the crime and they are currently helping the police with information on other syndicate members that dispossess innocent drivers of their trucks before bringing them to their criminal hideout at Azu Ogbunike.”
  
He said further details would be communicated, as investigation is ongoing.
