Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP) has stressed on the need to end Gender Based Violence (GBV), emphasising the collective role each individual plays in addressing this societal challenge.

A statement signed by the organisation disclosed that in its bid to curb GBV, it actively participated in the Gender and Safe Space Summit recently organised by Lagos State University’s Centre for Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (CRPSGBV) in collaboration with United Nations Women.

The summit served as an enlightening platform, sensitising participants on the intricacies of SGBV while providing valuable Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials for widespread awareness.

Executive Director, WRAHP, Bose Ironsi, added that the organisation also hosted the Political Officer for the United States Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria, Brittany Orange, at its service delivery centre, the Ireti Resource Centre.

“The visit was a testament to WRAHP’s impactful work in society and to share our vision of creating safe spaces for all members of society. Discussions also revolved around strengthening support networks and forging international relationships with other international bodies to promote the work we do,” she said.

According to her, WRAHP also completed its online series on the Nigeria Gender Equality Profile developed by the government through the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, supported by UN Women and African Development Bank Group. The series strengthens the national understanding of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE), aligning with international and regional commitments.

Also as part of events to commemorate the 16 days of activism 2023, WRAHP, with funding support from United States Agency for International Development under the Anti-Sexual Harassment Cluster, organised a stakeholders’ dialogue forum on Curbing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence In Tertiary Institutions for relevant stakeholders.

Ironsi was in December honoured as an African Champion for change and empowerment, particularly within grassroots communities. This recognition by Generous Activism celebrated her tireless efforts in effecting positive change.
